Ingredients
  

For the crust and topping
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted 2 sticks
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup salted caramel sauce
For the filling
  • 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (about 3 medium)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until well blended.
  4. Add the flour to the mixture and stir until it becomes crumbly.
  5. Press about two-thirds of the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  6. In a separate bowl, toss sliced apples with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  7. Spread the apple mixture over the crust in the pan.
  8. Drizzle the salted caramel sauce over the apples.
  9. Crumble the remaining flour mixture over the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  2. Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars.

Notes

Serve bars on their own or with vanilla ice cream. For storage, keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week, or freeze for up to three months.
