Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a 9x13-inch or 11x7-inch baking pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, then add granulated sugar and beat until fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until well combined. Then add red food coloring and mix thoroughly.
- Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture until combined and the dough is thick and sticky.
- Spread the sticky dough evenly in the prepared baking pan and bake for 8 minutes.
Topping and Baking
- Sprinkle the coconut evenly over the cookie layer, followed by the chocolate chips and then the white chocolate chips.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the layers and top with chopped pecans.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 25 minutes until set.
- Let the bars cool on a rack for at least 2 hours before cutting into squares.
Notes
These bars can be served plain or topped with whipped cream or ice cream. Store in an airtight container.
