Ingredients

For the porridge
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water or milk (or a mix of both)
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup jelly or jam (your favorite flavor)
  • a pinch salt
Optional toppings
  • to taste sliced bananas
  • to taste berries
  • to taste nuts

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by measuring out 1 cup of rolled oats and placing it in the medium saucepan.
  2. Measure 2 cups of water or milk and pour it over the oats in the saucepan. Add a pinch of salt for flavor.
Cooking
  1. Turn the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Stir occasionally to prevent the oats from sticking to the bottom.
  2. Once it starts to boil, reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring often. The oats will absorb the liquid and become soft.
Finishing Touches
  1. After the oats are cooked, remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the peanut butter until it is fully melted and mixed into the oats.
  2. Divide the porridge into bowls. Top each bowl with a generous spoonful of jelly or jam. You can mix it in or leave it on top for a pretty presentation.
  3. If you like, add sliced bananas, berries, or nuts for extra flavor and texture.

Notes

PB&J Porridge is best served warm. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stove. Freezing is recommended without the jelly for up to a month.
