Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • Yellow and orange food coloring (optional) For desired color

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large loaf pan with cooking spray or butter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger). Whisk together until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the pumpkin puree, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and orange juice. Stir well until everything is combined.
  4. Pour the wet mix into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. If you want the bread to look even more like brimstone, add a few drops of yellow and orange food coloring. Gently fold the colors into the batter until you reach the desired look.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top with a spatula.
Baking
  1. Place the loaf pan in the oven. Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cooling
  1. Once baked, remove the bread from the oven. Let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
