Ingredients
  

For the filling
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the vegetables.
  • 1 cup sliced onions For flavor and texture.
  • 1 cup sliced bell peppers Feel free to use any color.
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms Optional, for added flavor.
  • 1 pound ground beef This can be substituted with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For additional flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Enhances the savory taste.
  • to taste salt and pepper To season the mixture.
  • 4 slices provolone cheese Can substitute with other melting cheeses.
For assembling
  • 4 hoagie rolls hoagie rolls Keep them fresh for the best texture.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
  2. Add sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes until tender.
  3. If using mushrooms, add them and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  4. Push vegetables to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef, breaking it apart. Cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix together properly for about 2 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat to low. Place a slice of cheese over the beef mixture and cover with a lid to melt, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. While cheese is melting, slice hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.
  8. Once cheese is melted, spoon the beef and vegetable mixture into each roll.
Serving
  1. Serve hot, optionally toast the rolls beforehand.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze the meat mixture for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven to prevent sogginess.
