  • 15 ounces black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 3 tablespoons broth (vegetable or chicken)
  • Salt (optional, to taste)
  • Lime juice (optional, to taste)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds or until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the black beans, cumin, and chili powder. Mix everything together thoroughly.
  4. Pour in the broth. As it heats, mash the beans with a spatula or another utensil until they are mostly smooth.
  5. If needed, add additional broth to get to your desired consistency.
  6. Finally, season with salt and lime juice to your taste, if desired.

Notes

These beans can be served as a side dish with grilled chicken or fish, used as a filling for tacos or burritos, and are great for meal prep. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
