Ingredients

For the donuts
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup plain fat-free Greek yogurt For added protein
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet mini morsels Add for chocolate flavor
For the orange glaze
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons melted butter For glaze
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract For glaze
  • 2 cups confectioner's sugar For glaze consistency

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (160 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking soda. Set this aside.
  3. In another medium bowl, combine the milk, Greek yogurt, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and add in the mini chocolate morsels. Mix until just combined.
  5. Fill each cavity of your doughnut pan about 3/4 of the way full with the batter.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 10-11 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the donuts to cool completely in the pan before gently removing them.
Glazing
  1. While the donuts are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, mix together the orange juice, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  2. Gradually add in the confectioner's sugar and mix until smooth.
  3. Spread the glaze on the cooled donuts and sprinkle with additional mini chocolate morsels if desired.

Notes

For a healthier version, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with almond flour. Freeze without glaze for up to three months.
