Preparation
- Pour 1 cup of whole milk into a small saucepan.
- Add 1 cup of heavy cream, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 cinnamon stick.
Cooking
- Place the saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat. Stir gently while the mixture heats up.
- Wait until the milk mixture reaches scalding point (about 180 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully take out the cinnamon stick.
- Add 4 ounces of roughly chopped dark chocolate to the warm mixture.
- Using a whisk, mix the chocolate into the warm milk until completely melted and smooth.
Serving
- Pour the hot chocolate into a mug and optionally top with whipped cream or marshmallows.
Notes
For freezing hot chocolate, it is not recommended as it may change the texture. Store leftovers in a container for up to three days in the refrigerator.
