Cinnamon Hot Chocolate

Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 stick cinnamon Can remove after heating
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate baking bar, roughly chopped Use chocolate with at least 70% cocoa for best flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Pour 1 cup of whole milk into a small saucepan.
  2. Add 1 cup of heavy cream, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 cinnamon stick.
Cooking
  1. Place the saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat. Stir gently while the mixture heats up.
  2. Wait until the milk mixture reaches scalding point (about 180 degrees Fahrenheit).
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully take out the cinnamon stick.
  4. Add 4 ounces of roughly chopped dark chocolate to the warm mixture.
  5. Using a whisk, mix the chocolate into the warm milk until completely melted and smooth.
Serving
  1. Pour the hot chocolate into a mug and optionally top with whipped cream or marshmallows.

Notes

For freezing hot chocolate, it is not recommended as it may change the texture. Store leftovers in a container for up to three days in the refrigerator.
