Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, minced garlic, chopped onion, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix these ingredients well.
- Add salt, pepper, the large egg, and Italian breadcrumbs to the beef mixture. Stir until everything is mixed together.
- Press the meat mixture into your 8-inch baking pan, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
- Spread the mashed potatoes over the top of the meat layer, smoothing it out with the back of a spoon.
- Sprinkle the sharp cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon over the mashed potatoes.
Baking
- Cover the baking pan with aluminum foil.
- Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.
- Carefully remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.
