Ingredients
  

For the meat mixture
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped white onion
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
For the topping
  • 3 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/3 cup crumbled bacon

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, minced garlic, chopped onion, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix these ingredients well.
  3. Add salt, pepper, the large egg, and Italian breadcrumbs to the beef mixture. Stir until everything is mixed together.
  4. Press the meat mixture into your 8-inch baking pan, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
  5. Spread the mashed potatoes over the top of the meat layer, smoothing it out with the back of a spoon.
  6. Sprinkle the sharp cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon over the mashed potatoes.
Baking
  1. Cover the baking pan with aluminum foil.
  2. Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  3. Carefully remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  4. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Feel free to customize with different cheeses or add vegetables. Great for meal prep and leftovers.
